We’re Dream for America and we’re a Gen Z movement fighting to reclaim freedom, defend democracy, & revitalize the American dream.
DALLAS, TX (July 4, 2023) — On America’s 247th birthday, in a 3-minute video and a 20-word tweet; 16-year-old founder & CEO William He debuted Dream for America: a progressive alternative to far-right youth groups like Turning Point USA.
“At Dream for America, we believe in putting America First in hope, progress, & prosperity; that diversity is our greatest strength, that freedom & democracy are worth defending – and that the American Dream is still possible.”
16-year-old Founder & CEO William He
The son of immigrants, Mr. He made his first foray into politics at 11-years-old as a volunteer for March for Our Lives after the Parkland school shooting in 2018. Like many of his peers, Mr. He spoke about entering politics being no longer a choice, but a necessity.
In the launch ad, Mr. He speaks of building the most organized, active, and powerful progressive grassroots network on campuses across the country; hoping to usher in a new wave of progressivism echoing the visions of Franklin Roosevelt & John F. Kennedy.
The organization will concentrate on what it coins as ‘The 3 C’s’: Chapters, Creators, & Conferences. Through organizing both online and campus, Dream for America seeks to go on the offense where progressives are in the philosophical minority hoping to sway commonsense, Independent, and politically disengaged young Americans who live in working-class suburban, rural, and places of faith.
A clever overlay of imagery showcasing the Statue of Liberty, Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, the Moon Landing, & President Reagan’s iconic “Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down This Wall” line — Mr. He sought to rebut far-right appeals to ‘patriotism’ by reclaiming freedom and history as uniquely pro-democracy values and the cornerstone of the progressive movement.
“Our slogan is a better world is possible — because it truly is, only if we choose to invest in our students and invest in their future. For everyone who sees the world not for what it is, but for what it can be — join us.”
