Chapter Charter

FINAL STEP

Chapter Charter Agreement

The last step in officially establishing your chapter is reading and signing the Dream for America Chapter Charter Agreement.

Signing makes you an official part of the Dream for America network, with access to resources, support, mentorship and a community of student leaders ready to defend democracy, online and on campus. Once it is signed, your chapter is officially recognized for the rest of the academic year, as long as the chapter guidelines are followed.

Questions about the agreement? Contact your field representative or write to [email protected].

Before you sign, have these ready:

The agreement

Here is what your chapter agrees to when the President signs.

Use of name and logo

The chapter is authorized to use Dream for America’s name, acronym and logo together with the chapter’s name. Dream for America (DFA) is the sole owner of the DFA name, acronym, logo and brand. Individual chapter logos and branding must be designed, provided and approved by DFA.

Chapter name

Chapters are named “Dream for America at [School Name].” Chapters are expected to use their official name for social media accounts, bank accounts, advertising and all other promotional purposes.

Code of conduct

I. DFA chapters may never endorse any candidates running for public office. Leaders of the chapter may endorse candidates in their personal time, but may not do so on behalf of the chapter.

II. DFA chapters may never campaign for political candidates or aid political campaigns in any manner (donate money, recruit campaign volunteers, etc). Leaders of the chapter may do these activities in their personal time, but may not do so on behalf of the chapter.

III. DFA chapters may not design, offer, produce or sell merchandise without permission from the DFA National Team.

IV. DFA chapters may never host a speaker, virtually or on campus, without prior approval from the DFA National Team.

V. DFA chapters and representatives shall prioritize inclusivity and diversity within their chapter activity and decision-making. The highest standards of respect, decency and ethical behavior are expected of chapter leaders and members.

VI. DFA chapters and representatives shall report any instance of misconduct or violations of the Code of Conduct to the DFA National Team. Any violation of local or campus policy should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Right to disassociation

Should a chapter violate the obligations and guidelines in the Chapter Charter Agreement, fail to maintain communication with the national organization, or take part in activities the Dream for America National Organizing Department finds inappropriate, Dream for America reserves the right to disassociate from the chapter. Disassociation may include revoking use of the Dream for America name or ending financial support for the chapter.

Please note

Your chapter social media account, bank account and other tools are to be used for official DFA chapter purposes. Once they are created, chapter leaders give their assigned field representative the login information. We urge you not to link your personal social media or other accounts to the official chapter accounts, so your privacy stays protected.
